Lead your companies and your families by expressing your patriotism for the greatest country in the history of the planet. Your proactive expression will better your company, community, and children!

A team reflects the attitudes, passion, and work ethic of the coach. Fathers, you are the leaders, and now is the perfect opportunity to show your patriotism for this incredible country. Outside of 1776 and 1941, there has never been a more important time to live in love of country and not be fearful of expressing your true patriotism, loudly.

My father, Don Martinovich, lived the ultimate Horatio Alger story. His father left him when he was born, and my father never met him. His mother worked double shifts at the Terminal Bar outside the gates of Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. By a miracle she sent him to the University of Pittsburgh where he graduated with an Aeronautical Engineering degree, moved to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and spent 35 years in the Foreign Technology Division of the Air Force reengineering Soviet technologies and spending a great deal of time at Area 51 – he always refused to speak of it, even when I demanded there are aliens there! He attended every basketball, soccer, and baseball game I ever played because he more than anyone understood the power of a great father.

He died at the start of my trial, and the government postponed the trial so the jury would not have any sympathy for the defendant, but of course the judge released Orders to the newspapers claiming I asked for a delay. Many nights I thank God my father was not around to see the disaster of those last twelve years, both for us personally as well as his beloved country. But I am also heartbroken he is not here to see the unexplained miracles of the last five years – especially Cole and Carleigh.

Now is the greatest window for us fathers and business leaders to wildly express our patriotism and appreciate that we all won the lottery by being born in the United States. It is cool to love the United States again, not only for our 350 million citizens but also for the great number of countries around the world who also thank God for the United States.

I know all the business books say we can’t discuss politics or religion at our dinner parties, but they don’t say we can’t be unwavering patriots even when we greatly disagree with a thousand issues. Self-hate is a very destructive force for humans, companies, and countries. It stifles the good, the optimism, and the risk-taking mindset to build companies and even nurture successful families. No more apology tours permitted.

Proactively teach your children about how insanely lucky they are. Encourage and permit dissent and intellectual debate, and at the end of the day tell your children and your company how much you love them and that we are all in this together. Root for your home team while greatly respecting all other teams. If your son takes off the head of the power forward driving down the lane, teach him to be the one who picks up his opponent and pats him on the ass for the effort – not beating his chest and screaming at the crowd.
